Hi,

So my Cat has peed on my rug, I have scrubbed it both sides with carpet cleaner but now I've soaked it more and put it on the radiator it absolutely stinks!

I've been googling how to get rid of the smell and white vinegar and baking soda keep coming up, I've just been and bought some but I'm clueless, some say just use the baking soda then hoover, some say use both together, there are so many answers lol.

Can anyone give me a step by step idiots guide on what I'm supposed to do?

I would be so grateful.

Thank you

Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda in the USA) absorbs odours. Drop some essential oil in a tub of bicarb and wait a day for it to dry and scent the powder. Sprinkle it on and leave it for as long as possible (days) before hoovering it off.

Vinegar would smell. The reaction between vinegar and bicarb that gets a reaction that everyone thinks cleans, in reality just neutralise each other due to one having a high ph, the other a low.

I found that mixing bicarb with a bit of detergent and hydrogen peroxide did wonders for pee on mattresses. Might make the colour run on a rug though.

Buy a pet urine remover from the pet shop. You need enzymes to break down the odour molecules. Or try a solution of bio washing detergent on it.

I would recommend "Dr Beckman's Carpet Cleaner'...it's amazing stuff, when my dog got a stomach upset and created a sh** 'tsunami' this brought my carpet up like new, it cleans and deodorises all types of spills, even coffee...I wouldn't be without a bottle.

Thank You all!

Another vote for Dr Beckman's - they do a specific pet one.
