vinyl shower curtain maintenance-fun

how do I stop a vinyl shower curtain pictured from going slimy/manky/mouldy and needing replacement every few months? it's for an over bath shower and there's no extractor fan and I can't afford to get one just a window to open after shower, is it inevitable that it'll have to be replaced all the time? thanks

I chuck ours in the machine at 30 every month or so., If it ever gets mouldy, I spray with anti-mould spray and rinse off. But good ventilation is the key, I usually shower with the window open

Not much hope for the plastic ones.
Get a polyester one and machine wash every so often with bio powder. They come up really well.

@seperatedmum Google WAFFLE SHOWER CURTAIN.
Argos do one but you can get it pretty much anywhere.

I'm pretty sure I've been told on MN not to Google waffle curtain or was that something else? 🤢🤣

Ha! I googled it and it was safe results of regular shower curtains for me! Not heard of a rude connotation. Good luck!

I soak our in diluted bleach every couple of months then rinse off and rehang. It's not mouldy or manky yet!

SpacePotato · 14/03/2023 16:31

Stop buying the plastic type and get the thinner polyester type as suggested by PP.
They sell them in asda etc for less than £10.

Ours goes in washing machine. Dries super quick on washing line or just hang it back up in bathroom if weather is bad and it will dry like it would of it had been wet from the shower.

I was just buying what's available in Morrisons but "buy cheap buy twice and all that" noted 👍🏽

In case anyone is fussy on shower curtains like me and can't find a polyester one they like the look of, I have a beautiful cotton one from Urban Outfitters on the outside, (hanging out) with a cheap polyester white one on the inside (hanging into the bath) as a liner. The lovely one stays dry and the liner one gets washed once a month or so.

doesn't the inner one stick to you? especially if I'm showering with the window open as advised down-thread?

You need to put in the wash every week with your other laundry with bio detergent. It can be rehung right after the wash. A spare curtain is handy so you can alternate.
If it starts to turn manky over time, pre soak it in some dilute bleach, rinse and then wash with the other laundry

BertieBotts · 18/03/2023 07:36

If you're going to throw it away anyway, throw it in the wash, it can't hurt.

I would've done and have in past but the rings holes 🙊 had broken iyswim? so I couldn't re-hang it anyway
