Care for a new washer- Calgon?

I'm so excited! Got a new Bosch washing machine coming tomorrow afternoon. Our old one was a second hand one and really old.

What shall we do to care for it, should I use some kind of lime scale calgon product?
I will do a clean on it monthly with white vinegar.

What type of detergent is best to use, is liquid alright? Think I heard powder is not very good for machines

I use powder as it keeps the drum cleaner as it contains bleaches that liquids don't.

Other way round. Liquid is not good for machines. Use powder.

how hard is the water in your area?
calgon or other things are a bit of a con unless you are in a very hard water area.

agree with pp. powder is generally better for a washer. you can put it straight into the drum (no more manky drawer).

try to run a hot (60 or above) long cotton cycle (towels for example) once a month or so to keep the washer in a good condition.

Interesting about the powder!! I thought it was the opposite, that powder clogged up the machines. Our water is hard

So I bought some powder today to use instead of the liquid I normally use, but a quick google and all I can see is how powder blocks pipes and leaves residue so liquid is better!? 🤔

I find that liquids cause sludge and marks on my clothes whereas I never have that issue with powder. Dont use too much powder and you shouldn't have a problem.

I use the squidgy capsules in the washer drum. As iIm in a very hard water area, I also use softener tablets, but the cheap Sainsbury or Wilko one work just as well as the more expensive Calgon.

I bought an anti limescale ball which you keep in the drum (can’t use it on super hot wash).

Also,Bosch sell a descaler to use once every 6 months.
make sure you empty the filter regularly.

Once a month a run a 90c cycle with soda crystals. It keeps my machine fresh.

Powder is a lot better for a machine. Liquid and gel capsules cause a lot of issues especially capsules as the gel "wrapper" never fully dissolves unless you are doing 60 degree or higher washes for every wash. Whenever I have used liquid it has left a funny smell in my machine as well (I used it once over covid when everything was sold out).
