I've left it too long, over a year, so needs to be done. No more avoidance.
So far I've unplugged and filled numerous bowls with boiling water and so far hasn't even made a dent.
I don't want to go straight in with the fish slice and knives so appreciate any tips that might help before the food defrosts!

I used to use a hairdryer (carefully!)

Hairdryer. Saucepans of boiling water as the hot metal melts the shelf below too.

Line it with towels and use a hair dryer, just make sure it doesn't drip all over the hair dryer then chip it off the a blunt utensil the biggest knife you've got

Thankyou, that was my next move but I'm haunted by my neighbour being too vigorous and burning the elements.
This was years ago but it's put me off since.
Usually the bowls of boiling water and then scrapping has been fine but left it a little too long this time.
Next question is how to cure the boredom while I attack with the hairdryer 😂

I used a wallpaper steamer!

I use a hairdryer too - although it's not the safest of options it's pretty quick. I don't put the hairdryer right into the freezer, just direct the heat at the thickest ice.
