Carpet cleaners

Hi!

I’ve been looking at some carpet cleaners, particularly with attachments (upholstery). Everyone is recommending a spot cleaner, but is it practical to do an entire house of carpet - or buy two machines? Just seems so wasteful.

So my question is, if you have a carpet cleaner, which one do you recommend for sofas and carpets?

This thread is a bit old now, but if you have landed here looking for recommendations, we have recently updated our best carpet cleaners buyers guide, featuring products as tried, tested and recommended by Mumsnet users.

I’ve got a vax with an attachment hose, I think I bought it on groupon and it was definitely 6/7 years ago, it was around £120. I tend to use the attachment for everything, especially high traffic areas. It’s great. The only complaint I have is that the dirty water receptacle doesn’t open up so you can’t rinse out all the grimness. I think later models have corrected that.

Bissell - love my Bissell. Got a voucher from Lakeland which I used towards it. The deep clean function is really effective.

We've got a Vax.
The almost black water really shocked us.
It has spot cleaning attachments but you need the spot cleaner spray too.

I’ve got this full size machine:

me decide on this product: Deal: BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro | Upright Carpet Cleaner | Carpets Dry In About 30 Minutes | With CleanShot Pre-Treater & Pet Hair Removal Tool | 20666, Grey/Purple amzn.eu/d/eOSANmh Bissell Proheat 2X Revolution Pet Pro

and it’s brilliant! 6 year warranty, bought mine in November 2020 and haven’t had any problems at all. All attachments work well.

£279.99, but if you buy from Bissell Direct and sign up to their newsletter, you can (currently) get 10% off. Free 2-4 day delivery.

@anoniem If you’ve got somewhere like Currys near you, it’s worth checking if they have them in stock so that you can have a look before you buy to see the size/weight of them - they’re pretty bulky, bigger and heavier than a normal upright vacuum!

For stair cleaning you need to do the top four with the machine upstairs - the hose is long enough to do the remaining nine with the machine downstairs (assuming you’ve got a standard thirteen step staircase).

One thing: the floorhead brush rolls always spin when the machine is switched on, but in a slightly raised position - they only lower when you have the machine reclined for floor carpet cleaning. If you’ve got particularly deep pile carpet I’d recommend standing it on a doormat or something when using the hose and attachments.

Thanks! I’ll pop into Currys and have a look, space is an issue so that’s something I hadn’t even thought of 😅
