Walking rug. What gripper works?

Can anyone recommend a good way to keep rugs and mats in place? I know there are things on the market but what has actually worked for YOU?

The gripper things from ikea

One place I actually used double-sided sticky velcro, and stuck one bit to the floor, the other to the rug to keep it in place (but so I could still lift to sweep under)

My favourite was the grey ikea sticky felt - keeps my office rug (thin, no pile) in place and has just a tiny bit of padding - but they don't seem to sell it any more. I find the rubbery grid stuff does nothing for a similar rug in my living room - it still slips everywhere.

I have also used double sided sticky Velcro, but, now I want to remove it, it's almost put my back out trying to chisel it off the floor and has taken some of the wooden floor sealant off with it Confused

MGG what ‘things’ are they as they seem to sell a range?

I forgot to say there is tufted carpet underneath.

On my carpet I couldn't get it to stick. Tried double sided tape and some mesh/ grip stuff but it kept moving and creased horribly.
Currently got a new (horrible) thick pile tufty rug and some stuff from the carpet shop and it doesn't creep. Just sits there looking shit
So I
Am no help but watch with interest

I have a mega slidy mat in front of our fireplace on top of standard carpet.

I have tried EVERYTHING and nothing worked apart from this:

TEUVO Hook and Loop Tape with... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08QCJMZDH?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare

I also used it on our escapee sofa cushion and even with DH sprawling all over it - it's also not budged an inch!

I don't know what I'm going to do with all my spare time now I'm not constantly straightening the mat and repositioning the cushion Grin

My rug is not deep but not a mat either and creeps back to its creases where it was rolled. Do you think the hook and loop tape might work? I'm very very excited

Paperdolly · 08/02/2023 00:48

FCG it says it’s only suitable for smooth surfaces 🤷‍♀️

I was in a carpet shop last week and asked what they had.
Their best shot is a thin looking dark grey material, which is sold in linear lengths and comes about nine feet wide. One side is peel and stick, which is the side that goes on the rug.
I can't remember the brand name.
I expressed my doubt about such a thin looking thing being able to stop wandering rug problems but the saleswoman assured me that it really works.
It will cost me around £300 to find out…
