If you don't a hallway / boot room / utility room / porch etc, where do you keep your daily and occassional shoes?

When I lived in a house without all you mentioned they went in the understairs cupboard.

AmIreallyBeverly · 06/02/2023 16:19

Should have said, no understairs cupboard either.
Pointless even asking people to keep them in their rooms.

Ah so like front door opening into lounge type situation? I'd get an ikea shoe cabinet.

As in this.

I assume you go straight into a main room when coming in the front door? In my old house it was a similar layout and we had one of these on the wall near the door for everyday shoe storage

We have a 4x4 Kallax unit just inside the living room door. Each person has a box. Muddy shoes (one pair each) in downstairs loo. Any that don't fit in either of those places go upstairs in bedrooms. Wellies in the garage/car boot.

We also have a narrow hallway and no porch or under stairs cupboard. I find it so frustrating not having any proper storage space!

Shoe rack in the bedroom mainly. I also have a small simple one just behind the front door which you don't see most of the day as the door is always open. I put my everyday work shoes there when I come home.

FlounderingFruitcake · 06/02/2023 16:27

We had the understairs cupboard turned into a pull put drawer with shelves for shoes

GoldDuster · 06/02/2023 16:28

God alone knows, because I've got a hallway and they're bleedin' everywhere!

CosyCoffee · 06/02/2023 18:15

I have a large hallway and understairs cupboard and we still have shoes everywhere! It's easier if you just accept early on that footwear will always find its way all over the house and try to not see it Smile

Mine are in under-bed drawers and occasional shoes still in boxes are on shelves in my fitted wardrobe. DH's are kept in the window seat in the living room. We have a narrow hallway so no real room there and I refuse to have shoes lying about. Besides I feel like I've been wearing the same pair of boots for about 50 years 🌧 ❄ ☹

(As an aside, my SIL has an
immaculate house and no DC at home now but her hallway is strewn with shoes which always surprises me. I guess she has chosen not to die on that particular hill.)

I have this , I bought it about 4 years ago an am still very happy with it .
I have a couple of coat hooks behind my front door too but if I put more than 2 very thin / light summer coats on it I can't open my door properly

Mum2jenny · 25/04/2023 20:54

Under the bed

ProfYaffle · 28/04/2023 05:02

Our front door opens straight into the living room. We have a narrow console type cupboard under the TV where we put the shoes in daily use. Other shoes get stored in the big cupboard next to the bathroom.

Deathraystare · 05/05/2023 10:19

I live in one room. Not allowed to put anything in the 'hall'. They are strict on fire hazards and keeping things clear. No understairs so I have to keep them in my room. I have had to put stuff in storage which is not ideal! I have too many shoes! My friend gave me a two tier storage unit which is small enough and against the wall but truly only about 5 pairs sit there. Some I want to take on holiday with me (mainly sandals) I have had to put in drawers (as in chest of drawers). This weekend I pack up clothes and footwear for my holiday in a big case so they are at least out of the way.

I have a pouffe which opens, and I keep my excess shoes in the there

Jacksonishere · 02/11/2025 08:19

We don’t have a proper hallway either, so I ended up getting a small shoe storage bench from storagebench.co.uk’s collection. It sits just by the front door and doubles as a seat for putting shoes on. Keeps the daily pairs tidy and out of sight without taking up much space.
