5 days to clean my house - what must I know

I have a week off work, kids are at school/nursery, house is cluttered and unclean. I'm starting this morning with the laundry.

What jobs do I need to get done? Things I might not think of that will make a difference. All advice welcome

Following for ideas! I'm slowly moving from SAHM to housewife now all my DC are at school and nursery.

I like the idea of flylady but need to declutter first.

So far I'm trying to treat it like a job and plan out my day eg 9-10 might be clear breakfast dishes and wash up, 10-11 might be laundry, 11-12 admin, 12-1 lunch break etc.

I'm also trying to focus on one room a day!

Its not going very well tbh!

Come join us on the Fledglings thread if you like FlyLady (and want to, no pressure!), you can declutter as you go along 🙂

OP I was going to suggest FlyLady's crisis clean if you haven't found something that works yet

Team TOMM! Clutter buster and messy house boot camp. Then stay on top of it. Bung the Spotify playlists on, to brighten the mood.

I used to hate doing the kitchen until I listened to her Patreon clean-a-long and realised I could do a decent clean in 30 minutes. She's got loads but you need a subscription - worthwhile if you really don't know where to start.

Any update on how you're getting on? @MessyHouseExhausted You could use your thread for accountability.

Hopefully she's not obsessing about housework and is enjoying her time off work.

Get a box. Walk around the house and put all your dirty dishes etc in there. Load the dishwasher and run it.

put away everyone’s clothes. If you have clothes to sell or donate. Make a separate pile. Be realistic about what you will sell. Just donare them. Put this bag in the car. Leave earlier today for the school run and donate the clothes

now declutter the obvious to give yourself some clear spaces
box one
broken/old to be thrown away stuff
box two
for sorting into the right place/home.

Now you can clean.

Dust all surfaces and wipe down. Then vacuum throughout. Then do each bathroom
bleach the loo bowl. Leave that to work while you clean the sink and other surfaces. Spray your shower down with lime scale remover. Scrub the loo. Scrub the shower. Rinse the shower. Clean the mirrors and glass. Steam mop the floor.

make your beds
fluff up the sofas.
wash throws/blankets
clean the hob
steam mop all hard surface floors

now you should have a mostly clean house

tonight-
oven pride the oven overnight.

tomorrow
Finish cleaning the oven
wipe down all kitchen cupboard fronts
pair all the shoes and throw away any old ones
dust and polish all light fixtures
use spray glass cleaner on on glass pictures.
do some ironing. Put away ALL laundry

tonight-
strip all your cushion covers and wash. Dry them overnight

next day
iron cushion covers and place back on
wipe down all radiators and skirting boards

This is great! I might follow this myself.
