My sofa smells of rancid cheese!!!

One of my wonderful children has spilt what seems like a bucket of milk into the guts of our sofa. The smell is horrific. I’ve got about 1kg of baking soda sitting on the offending part right now but is this terminal? Can my poor sofa be saved from the stench? The situation is complicated by the sofa being far too large and it is unlikely to leave the house in one piece. I suppose I could take an axe to it and burn it in the garden but I live in a very naice area and the local Facebook group would be up in arms.

Help!

There used to be a Stain Devils solution for milk that I used in my old car after spilling a bottle in the footwell. At that point, there was wadding type padding under the carpet and it had soaked it all and stunk to high heaven. It was effective on the smell but took some time to eventually dry.

You need a cleaner with enzymes in it - what about a mattress cleaner or one for dog/cat urine?

Try soaking the area in a solution of warm water and biological washing powder.

My wonderful son once vomited on the base of my sofa (cushions were obviously being used to build a den) and I also considered setting fire to it.
In desperation I used everything that Google suggested...baking soda, white vinegar (was a better smell than the puke) carpet cleaner, febreze and finally a van carpet cleaner. I can't tell you which one cured it, but something did. Sofa was saved and went on to live for many more years.
Good luck!

ok I’m going with the bio washing powder for now. I’ll let you know!
