I splashed petrol
on my jeans somehow when I was filling the car, drive home absolutely stinking didn’t think much of it & chucked them in the wash (40 deg non bio)
now the entire wash is tainted, it’s not strong strong, but definitely there and the whole load smelled bad when I strayed the tumble.

what do I do? I have available, bio liquid, non bio powder, oxy action stuff, Pershing soda, soap nuts.
any thoughts? Very grateful.

Hang them on the line for as long as possible so any remaining petrol can evaporate. If you can still smell it after doing that then you could soak the clothes in hot water with vinegar before washing as normal.

You might find that the clothes lose their smell after drying (maybe except the original jeans!).

I washed cloths with white spirit on in my machine (on their own), and the whole machine and everything that went in it for several months afterwards, came out smelling of white spirit. The clothes etc lost the smell when they dried, so I just kept going. A few months later and now nothing smells any more.

Oh that’s really interesting it’s very disconcerting, especially when the tumble dryer gets so hot! I might give them one more run through with a bunch of vinegar & see if it helps.
