To keep on top of dust and dirt

We have light carpets. I hoover them and 1 hour later there's bits there again. I try and hoover upstairs once a week and just stick to that but I give in and hoover cus seeing the bits drive me mad. Same with dusting. I usually end up re dusting the bedrooms 2 days after they have been done as they seem to get so dusty. I'm trying to get to the point where I hoover and dust upstairs once a week and if it gets dusty and bitty then it will just have to be like that. I get agitated with the mess though. Surly if im doing it at least once a week though that should be enough??? How often do other people clean? I know i can be obsessive and agitated and am really tryin to go with the mentality thay as long as things are done once a week thats enough. I make sure we are always tidy and when post comes i deal with it there and then. I just feel I obsessed about always been straight over anything else. Hubby's quite laid back and says leave it and that the house can't be any straighter. He's very good and cleans up after himself and does more than his fair share of house work and keeping up with everything.
What is a realistic housework schedule so I don't feel agitated all the time.

Damp dust and then polish with wax - that seems to keep the dust away longer.

Never wear shoes in the house but do always wear slippers as socks are terrible shedders of tiny bits of lint the opposite colour from your carpet.

Fucking never ending mission.i love that. At least we have ordered a new bed with no annoying gaps and it's the kind of material I can wipe an anti bac wipe over and keep clean

Care less, get a robot hoover, but stuff that doesn't show up dirt.

Damp dust so you actually remove the dirt. Dry dusting just moves it around the house.
