How do you clean the grease filter in your extractor fan ( no dishwasher)

I don’t own a dishwasher, and the extractor fan is about 2 years old. The grease filter is detachable and looks a bit like a honeycomb, but covered in a film of gunk. Should I remove it and soak in fairy liquid? Any tips? Thanks in advance.

I did ours last week. Put it in the sink and poured a kettle of boiling water over it which removed a lot of the grease and then soaked in hot water with Fairy liquid. Gave it a scrub with a brush and more Fairy liquid and rinsed well in hot water.

When I did this I used the elbow grease spray, and it worked a treat and quick.

Thank you fluff, I have some elbow grease hanging around, will give that a go.

A soak in Soap powder and boiling water.

Soda crystals or liquid soda crystals are fab for the sticky / greasy stuff on cooker hood filters. I also use them on the top of the kitchen cupboards.

Elbow grease is the business for extractor fan filters.

Put in bathtub with hotwater and soda crystals for a few hours.

I soak mine in hot water and biological washing powder.

Too scared to put them in the dishwasher in case I break them!

I soak it in the sink with very hot water and fairy. Then I spray it with elbow grease and scrub with a brush
