Boxes / storage for nick-nacks?

Our house is chock full of clutter with each of us as guilty as the others of leaving bits and bobs in the wrong place - bobbles, charging cables, small toys etc etc. I'm sure I've heard people recommending before that each person in the house has a box of their nick-nacks so if someone else sees something they just bung it in the relevant box, with the idea that that box is then sorted out by the relevant person at the end of the day/week/whatever. Has anyone done this and if so could you recommend any particular types of boxes?? Links and / or photos would be ideal if possible! Thanks

We have a wire basket with handles for each child on the stairs. I threaten DH with his own basket but usually I just stick his stuff back on his desk in the study. I don’t need one, obviously, as I put my things away when I find them. 😇

This sort of thing - small enough to fit on a step, and needs to be emptied fairly often.
