De stink my down stairs loo

I have a down stairs loo with no window but a decent fan. I however have 2 stinky kids who bring their friends home and my god!! 💩

I have put a defuser in the hall. There is no shelf in the bathroom so one in there would get smashed in minutes. I could just spray air freshener but then I’d need to run in behind them.

l’d really like something to stay in there any give down stairs hall less of a sewage farm vibe.

You could get some of that poo pouri stuff and tell them to use it pre shit.

Frebreeze odor neutralizing spray is ok too.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 15/01/2023 21:16

You can get some stick on freshners that you can put on the side of the cistern.

Blue loo lemon actually in the cistern water? So instantly freshens with each flush.

Can you put a shelf above the toilet to put air freshners on?

CoffeeBeansGalore · 15/01/2023 21:18

If you have a socket in the hallway, a plugin might work if it's near enough to the door.

AperolWhore · 15/01/2023 21:19

Get one of those battery operated air presenters and pop it on the floor next to the toilet, loo blu and those disk things should all work.

Lostinthecoop · 15/01/2023 21:35

It’s a concealed cistern so don’t think you can drop anything in.

Whats a battery operated air presenter? I looked at the neom mini pod electric defuser. Only has 50 hours charge but others are less - 7 hours or so.

Battery operated air freshener goes off at regular intervals also get a loo freshening strip or disc that sticks to the side of the toilet maybe preemptive poopourri the loo before they come over

WeirdPookah · 18/01/2023 11:12

The Glade Sense and Spray are good as the above poster suggested, they go off based on movement, so doesn't waste products/batteries when it's not getting used.

Also neutradol make these little gel filled balls, I tuck one behind the toilet, I don't know how they work, but they seem to neutralise the smells.

Puppypads · 18/01/2023 15:48

Bottle of bleach beside loo and tell the stinky beggars to squirt some under the rim after every poo!

TrulyFubar · 18/01/2023 16:08

I know it's a MLM business but I have a Scentsy Fragrance Flower in ours and it's bloody great. It's like a Reed diffuser but, instead of sticks it's a flower which takes up the fragrant liquid and spreads it about in the air. They cost about 19 quid but they last for ages and they do crop up in clearance for less than that.

crosstalk · 18/01/2023 16:28

Please check your cistern cleaners etc - many of them are bad for fish and everything that lives in our rivers ... and some of it will get in there and seas given the rubbish water companies some of us have who are happy to dump untreated water and effluent into rivers/seas. Bleach isn't great either - especially with a porcelain loo. Still searching for an answer. But agree you should have one of those smell away things with a notice on how to use eg before not after.

newtowelsplease · 18/01/2023 16:41

Neutradol works for me in a similar situation

Lostinthecoop · 18/01/2023 17:18

I’ve bought a thing from next which says will last 45 days and pump aromatherapy oil into the air.

will pop it on the floor and hope for the best. Will buy the poo pouri for my own kids.

honestly who pops round for a play and a shit?

Not an air fresher but to absorb all the scents, guessing a lino or tiled floor, Squirt a load of shaving foam, the cheapest type will do, be liberal with it and leave it overnight and then wipe away in the morning. Just don't smell it after you wipe it, it absorbs any urine and poo scents.

pristinesurfacesGBTD · 18/01/2023 18:32

Strike a couple of matches, it does help. Maybe light a stick of incense and leave overnight.

Warspite · 18/01/2023 18:34

Follow them in afterwards and strike a match. The smell of the match burning apparently eradicates the smell. Strike one in the hall as well.
Wirth a try?

danni0509 · 18/01/2023 18:43

You want these two. I’ve got a small downstairs loo with no window and a 9 year old who pisses on the floor as many times as he can I’m sure of it. Mine stunk and i was sick of scrubbing it every day just for the smell to come back.

I use this down the toilet and I use an air wick freshener on my sink next to where the hand wash goes (they are small, and plastic so don’t smash) and it smells lovely now.
