Urine soaked sofa cushion

Ds fell asleep on the sofa one night and wet himself. It's soaked through the large base cushion and into the base. I've washed the cover but what can I do to the cushion? It's big and heavy and it's not hot sunny weather where I could stick it outside, hose it down and leave to dry. It's too big to go in even a laundrette machine. I can use the carpet cleaner on the base or just hot soapy water and a cloth.

Would it fit in the bath? If you wash it as if treading grapes, then a couple of you stand on it to squeeze out as much water as possible it could have a good wash. Then, If you have a dehumidifier (or can borrow one), it should suck all the moisture out if you have it on for a several hours.

Surely this is his problem to solve...?!

That depends on the age of the DS, surely? If he's 16, yes, if he's 6, that's not realistic.

OP, you could try a detergent for pet urine, and wash in bath as pp suggested. Your local pet shop should have pet carpet cleaning detergent which would remove the smell.

Thanks. He's just turned 8 and has recently been dry at night so this was due to earlier upset and being out of routine. He'd got up in the night and gone on the sofa.

Did you misread it as being husband instead of son?
