BLOODY MATCHPOTS!

hifi · 04/02/2008 16:23

i have been to homebase twice today looking for a soft warm neutral colour for our walls, painters started quicker than we thaught.
baught a total of 5 matchpots and none of them are like the colour swatches.
we have very radical magnolia on the walls at the moment and it looks like its staying if i dont get any top tips.
anyone had a magnolia type colour, but not ,if you know what i mean. if so which one, im desparate.

Farrow & Ball String - a warm but strong neutral colour. Very nice.

We have a crown one called wildwood in our playroom which is darker, a sort of light beige - doesn't show marks - any light magnolia cream you are going to see lots of marks!

Dulux Chalky Downs

thanks, i shall be off to home base soon to waste more money, any ideas for old matchpots?

Yes we've just had ours done, the colour we liked was dulux quilted calico, but the painters used johnstone's paint so they matched it with one called delicate mocha (not mocha at all - it's kind of parchmenty). It's lovely and not magnolia - it's got a more natural feel like parchment or unbleached cotton.

Farrow and ball 'string' is fab but is quite dark. You might find Matchstick is better, still warm and neutral but not so dark

Once you have chosen your colour, if you dont want to pay for the farrow & ball and other posh paints, take the colour chart to B&Q (the devils own DIY store) and get them to mix it up using that special machine which analyses the colour. Top tip from my skint mate who reckons it was a perfect match.

thanks everyone, gone for string.

Might be a bit dark for you, but Crown's Toasted Almond is lovely. It's the same sort of colour as Baileys.
