cold(er) water laundry detergent

Have been playing around with the different settings on my washing machine and really think the clothes are just as clean washed at 30c as 40c, and in the summer when we can line dry outside in the sun I am fully intending washing at 20c, or cold. I have noticed though that the laundry pods I use don't seem to dissolve as well in cooler water. Does anyone have recommendations?

We are in Scotland, in a soft water area, don't need to worry about limescale.

Powder will dissolve much better

Use powder. It's so much cheaper too

CharityShopChic · 11/12/2022 13:33

See I used to use powder. But found I was regularly being a bit heavy handed with the scoop and probably using too much - with the pods you just bung one in and it's already measured out. Maybe I should swap back. Any particular brand, or is it all much of a muchness? Our water is soft enough that cheaper brands are usually fine.

I wash mostly at 20 degrees. Aldi non bio works perfectly. If something is heavily stained I'll add some vanish. DH has excema so it has to be non bio (or any Persil)

We use Morrisons liquid non bio. I have quite sensitive skin & it's one of the few that doesn't make me itch. It's fine at 20.

I'm currently using an aldi powder in a pink box. I use whatever bio powder that's on offer

bio powder will do the job

bloodyeverlastinghell · 11/12/2022 15:07

I use Aldi bio, the lavender one. This probably sounds obvious but change your scoop if you’re using too much. I use the small pink one that comes with vanish and that seems about right for day to day stuff. I add a scoop of vanish if stuff is dirty or stained.

I swapped the scoop that came with the washing powder for a measuring spoon ( tablespoon) I go through so much less now and have noticed no difference to the cleanliness of the clothes.

Oh and I wash all clothes in cold ( sometimes 20 or 30 degrees but usually just cold) with Aldi powder.
