Remove cat scratches from fabric sofa

Help!! Does anyone know how to remove scratches from a fabric sofa? It's faux velvet

Hard to tell from the picture but it looks like the velvet has been removed where the scratches are is the black showing through the backing of the material? Not sure if it can be fixed if that’s the case, options would be to buy some extra material and have it re upholstered, put a throw over it, is it covered on insurance? May be worth checking.
