How to clean French Connection sofa backs

Hi all, first post on MN!

I have a French Connection sofa from DFS which I love, but it is filthy.

You can easily take off the seat cushions and put them in the wash which I have done a few times, BUT, you can't take off the back cushions without cutting the buttons off inside the cover? Even though the back cushions also have zips to take them off 🤷‍♀️

Does anyone with the same sofa know how to wash the backs? My backs are almost a different colour to the seats 🥴

Sorry I can't be if any help, but I would also like to know!
I didn't realize they could go in the machine. Did it not shrink them at all? I have the greeny blue colour one.

I have the light blue colour. No, they didn't shrink in the wash at all. I did them on a 30 minute 'quick wash' and took the temp down to zero. Hung them on washing line to dry and put them back on! They come out like new.

Did you get an answer on this or work out how to do it. I have the same dilemma!!!!

Hi I've been having the same problem but recently figured it out!!! The buttons on the back covers are like a clip that can be clipped off the thread that runs from the front to the back. I put safety pins into hold it in place until I put it back together I've added images to try explain. Hope this helps 😁

Hi, any advice in how to clean the small cushion covers which rest against the arms if the sofa? The buttons on mine don't have a hook. Thanks

I am just reading these posts and want to try this, but I’ve very scared of ruining the sofa! However it is already so stained. I have the green/blue colour, and even water leaves a massive stain. I assume you added normal washing detergent on the cold wash?

On mine I lost a button after cutting it and trying to put it back together. I rang them to ask to buy a new one after having it about 5 years and a guy had to come out to put it back on and he redid the whole lot. It involved a huge needle that when through the whole cushion. I couldn’t believe it was still covered to have that done. Didn’t pay anything!
the safety pin looks good but how do you get that back through the fabric?

Cluddy · 14/07/2024 08:52

My buttons don’t have the same hooks as @Weena700 shows in their photo, they seem permanently attached with white thread. I am wash the cushions you sit on but not the others, so it will look a bit odd😂

Try nancy birtwhistle wet dry clean method
You can find it online

I love my French connections sofas so much, I still refer to them as the new sofas after 8 years 🤣🤣 - mine are velvet teal and they’re beautiful.

I don’t think I could risk taking them off to be honest. Steam clean!

Can I just add, the reason mine still look new despite two kids and a dog…. I hoover them daily when I do my lounge and clean with a damp cloth probably weekly. I use a squeegee too. I’ve only had to wash the cushion overs once. I think the smaller ones could probably survive being washed just chucking the whole cushion on because they take up so much space in the washing machine they wouldn’t get battered
