Our carpet is green and smells of piss [boak]

It has been like that since we moved in 3 years ago, asd the previous tenant was a minger.

Anuyway, I can't abide it anyt longer. Howevere, as it is not mut house, I am not willing to pay lots of money for a new floor either.

Whats' the cheapest way?

(We have asked the landlord if there's any chance of him replacing it, and his answer was "No, but you can do it if you pay for it yourselves )

Also, getting new sofas delivered in a few weeks, ahnd I can't bear to put my lovely new chairs on such a scuzzy carpet

Have you got floorboards underneath? You can hire a sander for about £50 for the weekend and then just pay for some stain/varnish.

call a carpet place and see if they have any end of rolls (or whatever it is they are called) for your measurements

iirc B&Q do a click clack system of laminate (which I hate, but we inherited some one of our rooms and it is practical)

we (or I) am pondering putting some crappy carpet right throughout our house to help it sell when we put it on the market in the next month or so

what is under carpet? get big rugs from ikea? might be cheaper to clean carpet and cover it up.

SheikYerbouti · 29/01/2008 14:45

Can't be arsed with click fit laminate unless it's REALLY cheap tch. Too muvh hassle. Those things are never as easy to fit as it seems!

Under fcar[et is some rea;ly shit tile type stuff, which would look poo if uncvovered.

OO, do you mean remnants? Are thry really that cheap????

We moved house a few years ago (c.4) and had to carpet the entire new house - we got the cheapest carpet from carpet right which was £2.99 or £3.99 a square metre. Underlay added another £3 I think and fitting £2. It was under £1000 to do the whole (big) house. I should think you could do an average living room for ....rough calc...4m by 4m is 16 sq.m, say £9 a sq. m, that's £144. The carpet was fine btw - still in perfectly acceptable nick when we left 3 years later.
