Washing powder recommendations please!

I used to used Ariel automatic biological washing powder, but need to find a cheaper alternative at the moment.

Can anyone recommend me a reasonably priced biolgical washing powder that cleans whites properly, but does not leave a lump of hard powder in the drawer dispenser? (Asda essentials and lidl own brand both leave a lump and Asda not very good at washing whites. Morrisons own brand also has the same problem, but less so. I have ensured washer and dispenser drawer are clean.)

I'm totally confused. Our washing machine (Bosch) has two dispensers marked detergent for prewash and detergent for the main wash.

I've been using those Ariel all-in-one pods, by putting them in the drum with the dirty washing. But surely that means I'm just applying detergent prewash, and not for the main wash, as it will have washed away?

Prewash is used in different programs I think (never used it!)

Not every cycle has a prewash so if you use a pod I wouldn't use a cycle with a prewash as the detergent would not still be there for the main wash

Thank you. I didn't realise that. I don't really know if we use a pre-wash... Will investigate further!

If I want a prewash I need to select it as an option and add it to a wash cycle. It isn't part of a standard wash cycle on my machine.

I didn't realise that. Have to confess, I've never actually used the washing machine myself. 😀 DH mentioned we needed new pods, and when I looked at the machine, I noticed these confusing dispensers. He's probably got it all under control, but when I did the shopping today, I economised anyway by buying Tesco washing powder, not Ariel pods! 😂

Powder is much better for the machine anyway.
