Musty clothes

I’ve just started wearing some clothes I haven’t worn for 18 months-ish and they’re so musty. My house isn’t damp and our bedroom is aired daily. They’re musty both in the chest of drawers (wooden and freestanding) and wardrobes (built in). Is there anything I can do to prevent it happening?

If you haven't worn them for 18 months or so I'd just wash them again anyway.

Oh yes of course they’re all in the washing machine/tumble dryer now. No way I’d wear them. Just wondering how to stop it happening again in the future with different clothes in a different wardrobe.
