What is this dust by skirting board? Insects?

I’ve just found a load of nasty looking dust/granules next to a skirting board in a cupboard. Any ideas what it might be? I’m guessing some sort of insect. Ugh!

Just looks like sand/disintegrated mortar to me.

Is your home an older build with brick walls? Pretty normal for those to settle, bricks to move slightly, and mortar to crumble.

Yes it’s about 100 years old, with brick walls. Would be a relief if it’s not something chomping away!

We have been getting the same! A little while back we seemed to have a lot of ants in the kitchen, crawling along work surfaces up the wall and in a cupboard. Treated it with pure lemon disinfectant and thankfully disappeared. Could thus be a resurgence? We've just bought some ant repellent spray, so shall wait to see how that will work.
