I guess everyone has different bodies and thre is not a one mattress suits all but you pay a lot for a holiay to have it ruined by a mattress that is too hard

For me, a hard mattress is my preference and I get a sore back from soft ones.

Guess hotels can’t please everyone 🤷🏾‍♀️

I don't think they can win unless they have a choice of mattresses (first come first served)! I have an ikea spring mattress in firm at home that cost less than £100. I find it comfortable. I've slept on softer mattresses and woken up with a back ache.

The best mattress I've ever slept on was initially so rock hard I thought I'd never get to sleep. But I did, and quickly, and when I woke up it was like I'd been massaged all over - I felt amazing. I would love to buy an identical one but it was 22 years ago so I'm unlikely to find the supplier now.
It was at The Manor House at Castle Combe, if anyone happens to know where they got their mattresses from at that time 😂.

Thanks well it proves that some strive on hard and some strve on soft. I have sciatica and a sot on suits me better wich is strange because at wor i have an orthapedic chair. My sciatica is not as bad as soe people and wen I went to a physio he said he has treated some people far worse than me and some cannot even feel their leg and have pins and needles which i have never experienced and some even have to have surgery my physios exact words to me were You are not as bad as you think you are.

Anyway I am deviating a bit but thanks for the responses. I hae not been on this site for a very long time because last time I tried it said you had to pay to start or reply to a thread and I thought I am not paying but that seems to have been taken away now because I am not paying

If I stay in a hotel and the bed feels too hard, I always phone reception. Very often the hotel has been able to put a mattress topper on the bed to soften it.

Flute56 · 15/10/2022 19:13

I very much doubt that the hotel I stayed in would have a topper. It was quite cold one night and they did not even have a heater. They said turn the heating up from the touch screen gadget on the wall but it was still too cold. I had to sleep in a jumper and leggings and they did not even provide spare blankets. Some hotels have pare blanket in a cupboard. I would not stay there again
