Mattress topper - worth trying or not?

ACatCalledPuss · 15/10/2022 00:53

I had covid recently and ended up sleeping in the spare room for a few nights. Realised the spare bed mattress is not that comfortable. It only gets used about 10 nights of the year so don't really want to fork out for a new mattress. Is it worth buying a mattress topper and if so, which one?

Yes definitely!
My DS bed had started feeling a bit uncomfortable with the springs and the topper makes it much more comfortable.
I bought it years ago now so can't advise where from but I did notice them being sold in Lidl a few days ago and they felt very substantial.

Silentnight Airmax topper is brilliant. £40 on amazon atm.

Teresa777 · 15/10/2022 00:57

Absolutely worth it! We've have a few Silent Night ones and they make the mattress feel like sleeping on a cloud.

Yes, this is the one we have. It's fab.

Aria999 · 15/10/2022 12:35

Yes. Totally transformative.

Following with interest! OH has just given me the go ahead to try a topper. We’ve just recently purchased a new mattress and it’s very firm, but it’s really helped his back so he’s reluctant to swap it. I feel like I’m sleeping on the floor.

We bought a topper fur the first time, it's on top of a new mattress that we'd slept on prior to getting the topper. Even on a new mattress it's been such a positive change for the better.

Ellmau · 15/10/2022 22:03

Yes, it really does make a difference.

Can't remember what brand I got though.

dementedma · 15/10/2022 22:04

Love mine. Bed so comfy with it on.

containsnuts · 15/10/2022 22:09

Following with interest. My mattress has started losing it's integrity but I cannot stand memory foam which most of the toppers seem to be atm.

Todaynotalways · 15/10/2022 22:11

I couldn't believe the difference ours made.

It took a mediocre, but brand new, Simba mattress and made it hotel-room-comfy.

Teacoaster · 15/10/2022 22:23

We bought one from Panda, it's quite pricey but it feels like I'm sleeping on a new (better) mattress. It also helps to regulate temperature when sleeping so it's great at minimising night sweating. I would recommend it.

Teacoaster · 15/10/2022 22:24

pandalondon.com/product/mattress-topper/ for those interested.

Same experience here

Brilliant, thanks so much everyone. Going to get the silentnight one for the spare room but also really considering the panda one for when I hit the menopause in a couple of years 😁.

We also have a simba mattress. Interested to hear what topper you bought.

I have recently bought two Panda toppers, worth every penny, cheapest place Costco on line

HobnobsChoice · 16/10/2022 13:13

I'd love one too but lots of people have said they find it makes them sweaty in bed. I'm always hot whatever the weather so I don't want to get hotter especially when I'm probably about 5 years away from menopause and hot flushes.
Do the Panda ones definitely wick away any moisture

ConfusedGin · 16/10/2022 13:16

I got one when I was renting as the mattress was old and it made the world of difference. I use the topper on the spare bed now and everyone comments on how comfortable it is. Well worth it for me

nearlyretired · 16/10/2022 13:18

Ditched my mattress topper as it was giving me a bad back -but I do like a firm sleeping surface

SunshineAndFizz · 16/10/2022 13:20

Following with interest for our spare mattress too.

Teacoaster · 16/10/2022 18:36

I don't sweat in bed but my other half does and prior to buying the Panda topper, he'd wake up a clammy, sweaty mess in bed, whether winter or summer.

Since the Panda topper, he doesn't sweat in bed anymore, at least not to the point the sheets are wet. It's bliss. I sleep better too because I'm not sleeping next to a radiator.
