Candle wick not lighting - any rescue suggestions?

Just that really ... I keep having to gouge round it so it lights again but it burns out very quickly.

Can I rescue or just bin it?

Once you've gouged it out, do you get rid of the excess? I'd get it lit, and keep pouring out the wax until you have a sensible length wick.

I believe this happens because you don't burn it long enough. On the first light you're supposed to burn it long enough so that the entire top of the candle melts, not just a little while so that you have a little melted puddle around the wick then extinguish. Can take a good couple of hours.

Can you carefully cut away the excess wax around the sides so it's level again and then let it burn so the whole top is melted?

I'll try and cut the wax out so it's level then start again and let it burn a few hours.

I'm sure I did this first burn ad I think I'd read similar before but definitely worth another go.

Thanks both!

Hopefully this should do it!
It's not pretty though Grin
