How do you keep your drainer clean?

The thingy by your sink that you put wet, washed dishes on.
I am forever cleaning mine, but I feel like I take my eye off it for 2 days and it's slimy and disgusting again.

I have a fine metal one which is very good. Plastic chunky ones are awful for this.

Yes, mine is plastic and chunky.
I used to put it in the dishwasher when we had one.

This was my pet peeve at college. I would scrub it with washing up liquid in the sink every few day. Metal one was vetoed as too small.
Nowadays (own house) we have a slimline metal one which goes in the dishwasher once a week.
