Best sprung mattress - your recommendations please

Desperate for a new mattress and no idea what to get.
We got an Emma several years ago, and it was the worst thing I’ve ever slept on, as found it incredibly hard (to the point of giving me severe backache), plus it makes DH sweat loads and stinks the bed out! 😱

We’ve kept the Emma for 2 years, hoping we’d adjust to it, but no, it has to go!

Please can anyone recommend a decent sprung mattress? Thank you!

I recently invested in an Otty, expensive but worth it

Thanks @heidbuttsupper , however they all seem to be hybrid/memory foam, which we don’t want, as we think it’s the element making DH sweaty (he never was before we got the Emma).

We've just treated ourselves to a brand new super king size from an independent bed shop, it's a Wheatcroft Lambeth spring mattress with sprung pillow top and it's amazing. Would highly recommend. Probably mid to higher end, it was £2000 for the mattress and ottoman divan base.

Vi-Spring and Hypnos never fail to satisfy

Vi-Spring is great, but expensive and they’re extremely heavy.

Highly recommend JohnRyan by design. Read through lots of threads on here after back surgery this year and ended up with this company. They have lots of information as well as a wide range of mattresses...very helpful with my huge list of questions as well! Got a zip and link super king in the end; absolutely amazing!

Love my Hypnos, bought through the Premier Inn deal which made it a lot cheaper!

@FeelinSpendy

Do you mean heavy to move or 'heavy' to sleep on?

im looking forward a mattress that's 'solid' like an old fashioned one.

Vi-sprung is heavy to move and super to sleep on. I love mine and got the whole lot (mattress and divan) for £999 in JL sale. A third of the price!

Can you get to a big John Lewis? We have a JL sprung mattress with a pillow top, but they do a huge range at various price points. A guy there spent 90 minutes with us, getting the right thing (not the most expensive thing). He had us lying on about 15 different mattresses. Prior to that we had a Hypnos mattress (also from JL, also with a lot of help, which was very good). All this is expensive though. The most recent one was £1,700.

@ZooTropia thank you! I'll take a look!

@RedRosie yes, we could get to a JL.
Would be good to actually try a few, so will look into this.

I recommend it. Mostly because there's lots to try and no up-selling whatsoever. We briefly had a memory foam mattress. Never. Again.

We used to have a visprung and now have a herdysheep. It is as good as the visprung and a lot cheaper.

This is the perfect thread for me at just the right time. I desperately need a new mattress and do not want foam. I want a really good pocket sprung one. I've tried reading which reports but they are bloody useless. They only cover one Hypnos, for example.

They do seem to think quite well of the IKEA ones, but I'm quite sceptical of something so relatively cheap. I'm willing to invest a lot more.

Thanks to the posters! It's very helpful.

I keep going back to the John Ryan website, as they seem very focused on good customer care. Keep getting overwhelmed with all the choice though!
really want our next mattress to be amazing, as were SO underwhelmed by the Emma one.

Has anyone got a Koti brand mattress? If so, how is it?

John Ryan here too. Was swung by the no quibble 60 day trial - SO much better than just trying in a shop. Very happy with our various mattresses from them. I did actually return one ( but purely because our bed layout plans changed not a problem with the mattress) and they collected it no problem at all.

Also their advice is good - DC2’s mattress bought on their advice is much more comfy and child suitable than the one for DC1 which we chose ourselves from JL.
