Nespresso plus coffee subscription

Just bought a Vertuo machine. It says on their website that I can sign up to a ‘subscription’ for half price for six months, so £25 reduced to £12.50 for the first six months (and a free milk frother with my first subscription).

But I can’t work out what else I’d actually get for that? What does the subscription give me?

It seems to be free postage, a free sleeve of coffee (presumably worth £7ish, that they think I will like but I probably won’t), and 20% off accessories that I don’t want and won’t buy.

So am I paying £25 (or £12.50) just for one sleeve of coffee and free postage on one order a month that I still have to pay for or what? (And it seems to be 5 sleeves minimum order)?

Do I pay £25/£12.50 a month in a direct debit or standing order basis and it gets me £25 worth of coffees of my choice too? So it’s basically just snaring me into buying their pods regularly as it will take the fee off me anyway so I just need to remember to order the coffee or I’ll get nothing for my £25/£12.50?

The website is pretty crap so I need MN’s advice please!!

We've just done this too and yes the website is awful isn't it?

You get 25 quids worth of coffee pods a month, plus your free milk frother and sample. First six months is discounted to £12.50.

I'm not sure I'm enamoured of the Vertuo machine but it's DH's really. I rarely drink coffee.

It's a good deal if you drink a lot and I'm not sure you can get the vertuo coffee pods anywhere else so you might as well do the subscription.

Oh and just re-read your post! Sorry, it's very early Blush

The 25 quid builds up in your account and you use it whenever you like. So you could wait three months and then buy £75 worth of capsules.

If you do Naked Wines or similar it's like that!

Thanks Doc.

So it’s basically like a savings plan where you put in money each month and then you get it back whenever you choose to ‘cash in’?

So do you think that mean for the first six months I put in £12.50 per month and it credits me £25 per month to use up at a later date?

Wonder if the ‘cancel at any time’ policy means I can pull out after the initial six months, it doesn’t make it clear.

If that’s the case then I will be spending £12.50 a month, plus the minimum spend of five sleeves so call it £6 each so £30 = ££42.50 a month going up to £55 a month in month seven? So it will be £255 spend over six months rising to £510 over the second six months total £765 a year in the initial year.

That’s a lot to spend on coffee when it’s really my other half who is the big coffee drinker!! 50 pods a month plus 10 free = 60 x 12 months = 720 pods. Plus ‘cash’ in my ‘savings plan’ and get all that worth of coffee too, over 100 pods!

I wonder if I need to buy a storage unit to keep em all in….!!

Wonder if that’s right. Anyone else know?

Yes it's like a savings plan - we had to ring up and speak to someone! They did say we could cancel anytime so assume that's correct. I know with Naked Wines you can and they will even refund you what you've paid in!

I emailed them this and got a super quick reply. You’re right, it’s like a saving plan, that costs £12.50 a month and which effectively gives you an additional £12.50 credit at no cost to yourself for the first six months! Cancel at any time.
They advise:

…”Once you activate this Subscription you will receive 6 months of half price, which means that you will pay £12.50 but the credit of £25 is credited back into your account for you to purchase your monthly coffee with. With this you become an Ambassador customer which is the highest tier we have, this allows you to get free delivery, 20% off accessories and 35% and 15% of our machines.

The Subscription does not have a contract so can be cancelled at any time with no termination fees. When you access your online account you can see the balance on your account, which can be used online, in-store or via our phone lines.”

That sounds better than I’d hoped! Might be worth doing :-)

I just used the code for the offer that came with my new Vertuo machine and subscribed. There were no pods on the order, just the subscription. Did you have to do anything to get it to activate so you could actually order some coffee? The entire process not really explained in any understandable bay and is abetted by a terrible use experience overall.

We’ve had a Nespresso ( not vertus just original) for more than ten years. We love it. Every time DH rings up to place the capsule order they ask if we want to subscribe. We never do.

I think he thinks ( it’s his responsibility) that you don’t save any significant amount, and just ordering what you want when you want it is much better. They come incredibly quickly even without express delivery ( we used to joke that the Nespresso man just hid in the bushes at the end of the drive waiting for the call).

I went into the store today to enquire and it seems like a better deal. Different at least. £50 for any Vertuo machine, and £20 a month subscription which can be cancelled at any time. It always seems so complicated though!

Lonecatwithkitten · 27/09/2022 08:16

Work out how much coffee you use we use 5 to 6 pods per day which is around 1800 pods per year this makes as an Ambassador customer without needing a subscription. So I get all those benefits.
