Disposal of old/broken TV

We have just ordered a new TV online and the companys does not offer a service to take the old one away. Do you think the local Rubbish Tip would take it?

If you go to your nearest tip/recycling centre, they should have an area for electrical goods. Think the council has to provide disposal facilities for such items these days.
