Curtains when you're on holiday

What's everyone's thoughts on open or closed curtains while away? To me closed looks like "I'm away" - as does half-closed. I'd probably go for open. It's not my house it's my Dad's and he won't have security. SIL is going round closing them!

Either way, unless someone's going to the house everyday a house will just look unoccupied at some point in the day, but closed in the day is more obvious.

I agree with @dudsville, I have relatives who shut their curtains when going out or on holiday and it immediately shouts to me that they are either, not in, or on holiday, so I think keeping them open is the best option HTH.

I tend to leave open but have a hall or landing light on so when its dark it looks like the house is occupied.
