Dry clean only school blazer - are there any other options?

DD's school blazer is becoming increasingly smelly, mainly down to her seemingly refusal to wear deodorant Sad. The label says dry clean only, and at £85 I am reluctant to mess it up trying various options as she wont be able to return to school until I can afford a new one.

Has anyone tried to machine wash a dry clean school blazer please?

Our kids blazers are machine washable, seems crazy to have dry clean only uniform, what do other parents at your school do?

I fold dds one very carefully put it in an underwear bag so not spinning about and getting wrinkled and then wash it at 30 and hang straight away

Clean it with a damp sponge.

A damp sponge isn't going to get BO smell out of armpits!

What's it made of?

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/09/2022 18:58

If your daughter won't wear deodorant consider removable under arm pads. I'm not even sure you can still get them but they were commonly used on the days before deodorant.

Pop it in a laundry net and use a gentle wash at 30 then as soon as it's done take it out and hang it

Yes you can get them just search removable underarm pads. Modi bodi make them.

I think they all dry clean, the dry cleaning shop in the town is always busy at half terms!

It's 55% polyester 45% wool.

Maybe try a gentle wool wash with wool detergent. Does your machine have a wool cycle?

My ds's blazer is made of recycled plastic bottles apparently. Luckily it's machine washable

autumnboys · 16/09/2022 19:37

I’d try a wool wash, or perhaps even a hand wash.

Madamecastafiore · 16/09/2022 19:40

At £85 I'd pay to get it dry cleaned.
