Dyeing ballet shoes

DD insisted she needed pink ballet shoes for her dance class. Teacher didn't provide a list and shop didn't know. Turned out she needed black!

What can I use to dye the pink shoes black? Would the DYLON dye work for this?!

It depends on what they are made of - are they leather, satin or canvas?

If they’re just ballet slippers, not pointe shoes, then annoying but I’d buy new and not faff. The dye would be what £7 and new ballet slippers £9?

Pointe shoes - paint with black India Ink (dd needed them for specific performances). The same would probably work for satin ballet slippers but it scarcely seems worth it.

Leather slippers for class? Buy black ones,

Daylong works on natural fibres best, polyester will likely stay the same pink so you might get black shoes with pick stitching, buy new ones.

Dylon!!!

Thanks everyone. Yes they're the leather slipper style ones. Good point about the dye probably costing the same as new ones Confused

Just a bit annoyed as the costs are mounting up and the teacher is really disorganised and bad at communicating - we'd already paid for this half term's classes, then the teacher announced £20 extra to pay for the show rehearsals, it turned out tickets for the show are £16 each because she booked the local theatre rather than the school hall(!) and then told us we needed to provide two costumes for it.

If your DD hasn't worn them, could you return them to the shop for an exchange?

RidingMyBike · 16/09/2022 18:12

She's been wearing them for a term so no Smile. Teacher didn't bat an eyelid at her turning up in different colour shoes to everyone else back in May. Otherwise we'd have taken them straight back to exchange. It's only this week she's come home with a list of requirements for the show that includes black ballet shoes.

It's an after school class so she put them on after school and wore them for an hour. It was only when DH got there to pick her up that we discovered all the others had black shoes!
