could smell an awful smell today in the house and located to the wash basket, turns out DS had spilt milk on the carpet and used damp towel to soak it up then chucked in the wash basket , a couple days ago
he had then wiped the carpet with washing powder and water so carpet isn't too bad but have just sprayed with a pet odour spray to ger all smell out
the towel i chucked in wash with other towels on hot wash but just read should be cold for milk so stopped and put on cold 20 mins and then will put on normal wash
do you think this will get rid of the smell ? or will I of now made all towels smell
Clothes in the wash basket also smell of sour milk , so again shall i just wash them at 40 or on a cold wash, wash basket also smells so just stuck that in bath and washed with some shower gel ( all i had to hand )and will air and see if the smell goes ?
any idea what I can use if still smell after washing
I have added some washing cleanser in with towels as well , but the house still stinks

Use baking soda and white vinegar* half a cup of each place with half the amount of washing powder . I buy mine in Savers . Run a standard cycle up to 60 degrees with the items . This should get rid of the smell and also anti bacterial use your washing machine. Hope this helps

  • not white wine vinegar.

Thanks have neither in though but will get some for future use
Hoping the powder works along with the anti bac stuff for now , trouble is 60 degree wash is over 2 hrs so a long wait to find out

Or you could soak the items in washing/ baking soda over night the put on a quicker wash.

Towels seem to if come out ok , now washing clothes as typically it was full and smell is on all clothes
Washing basket still not smelling great so have put outside to air overnight/ tomorrow and will see if smells ok
Just one more load of clothes to go in tonight , smell in house is still lingering , windows open
Resprayed ds carpet with what I thought was pet stain remover again but actually was dettol ( look the same) so now smells like chemicals so window open and fan on to dry the carpet
This is why I don't allow drinks upstairs!!!!
