can anyone help me identify what these bugs are? They look like flies but can’t fly… woke up to loads in the living room 😩
Also spotted a few of these brown rice shaped eggs(?)

we had maggots in the kitchen last week but managed to get rid of them, are these related?

They look very much like carpet beetles to me. 😬

dementedpixie · 02/09/2022 14:10

Looks like a beetle not a fly

corblimeym8 · 02/09/2022 14:15

That is definitely not a carpet beetle. Looks like a fly on the left.

corblimeym8 · 02/09/2022 14:17

Ahh sorry that's not helpful, you said it can't fly! No idea but you can rule out carpet beetle here

user1471504821 · 02/09/2022 14:32

how odd, I've got exactly the same thing, winged little beetles- every time I clear around 50 of them up another load arrives! Must be hatching day!

12BottlesOfVintageChampagne · 02/09/2022 15:27

The first one is definitely a fly - possibly a cluster fly? The second is a larva of some variety, but doesn't look much like a carpet beetle larvae (woolly bear) to me. For obvious reasons, these are usually pretty furry.

dementedpixie · 02/09/2022 15:34

OP said it doesn't fly so I'd think it's a beetle

Mizydoscape · 02/09/2022 15:43

The first is some kind of fly and the second is a maggot caster

SeaThingChild · 02/09/2022 15:43

All beetles can fly though, including carpet beetles. That is a very fly like creature in the first photo. I will have a Google.

SeaThingChild · 02/09/2022 15:47

Are they maybe newly hatched flies out of their pupae so can't fly yet but will? Your pictures just look like a housefly pupae and newly hatched adult fly and if you had maggots its most likely these are the next two stages on from them.

Just a thought op, have just traced mine to the logs we bought yesterday, they are flying to the window sill from the log basket. Have you bought logs recently?

I agree, My food bin wasn’t collected for 2 weeks one summer, and that was what the maggots developed from……

Jellybean23 · 02/09/2022 18:25

They are weevils and commonly come into houses in summer in varying numbers. They are harmless, just hoover/sweep them up.
Some weevils are attracted to grains and flour so make sure you store yours in containers.
