So my twins new high school uniform stinks!!

the blazers are fine. Trousers and skirts have this weird chemical smell.

I washed and line dried on a 40 wash. Then soaked all night in bicarbonate of soda. Washed again today at 40.

they smell awful!

any ideas how to get rid of the smell?

used bio powder and lenor, today aldis equivalent to surf and comfort

Can you leave them on the line for a few days so they get a really good blow around? Obviously they'll probably be in need of a another wash after being outside all that time but maybe the smell will be better?

@Rodion thank you for posting 😊.

na, tried that. They come out of the wash smelling lovely, as they dry the smell comes back

Workinghardeveryday · 13/08/2022 07:48

they still stink, it’s a weird chemical smell.

no idea what else to try ☹️

Not got any advice i'm afraid but I had a pair of pj's that no matter what i washed them in or with had this awful smell when they dried. I gave up and binned them.

You'll have spent a fair bit on uniform though so hope you get it sorted. Can you not take it up with the shop you bought them from as they aren't fit for use.

Whatwouldscullydo · 14/08/2022 09:20

Take them back. Unifirm is expensive akd it shouldn't need washing multiple times and all this faffing about just to make them usable.

Its quite possible there was a spill of some kind in thr factory/warehouse/shop storeroom. Or that they are returns and god knows what could have happened at the previous owners house.

Return them and open any replavements in the shop ti check its ok

I just bought some Morrisons school trousers, made from recycled bottles or something, they smell unbearably odd.
Anyway, after washing them 3 times at 60 and line drying them I have had to throw them away (can't find receipt). Terrible waste of energy, waste of time, waste of money and now in landfill.
