Best way to stop a rug sliding about

I've just got a flat weave type wool rug. It's to go on a tile floor and I was wondering if there was a good way to keep it in place? It's currently sliding all over the place, especially with small children playing/running over it Hmm

Thank you!

You need the rubbery mesh style under rug. Search on Amazon for rug gripper. It's white mesh.

We put proper rubber carpet underlay under ours and it was a game changer-not only does it completely stop the rug moving, but it also makes the rug so much more squishy and comfortable under foot!

I think my parents had one of those and it kept sliding out for some reason. I wonder if I could attach it somehow? Or maybe they just had an unusually rubbish one?!

That sounds good, did you get it from a carpet shop? Or online? Was it expensive?

I use carpet tape to keep my rug (on carpet) from walking every time someone steps on it. Works very well. Would think it'd be even better on wooden floors. Got tape from B&Q.

We’ve got an anti slip grey matting from IKEA that has worked far better than the mesh rubbery stuff. So I’ll recommend that.

@JofraArchersFastestBall we had some leftover from a carpet fitting job, but I think we bought it originally from screwfix (not that long ago - certainly within the last 18months). You need the proper rubbery style rather than the more modern chunked up fluff stuff. Am sure carpetright would sell it too.

Search for Foxi anti creep underlay from Frith Rugs, they sell it on their website and amazon too, it's the only thing that has stopped my rugs creeping around the place! I've purchased 3 lots of it now for all my hard floors. It does state for carpeted floors but they confirmed for me that it can be used for hard floors too, and it's fab!

Carpet tape!

Howdoisawwithnosaw · 12/08/2022 19:37

I read that as

‘Best way to stop a slug riding about’

I’m a bit disappointed by the actual topic now.

anyway, in my experience a mix of both main answers is required - carpet tape then mesh thing then more carpet tape then rug. I might have just had extra slidey rugs though.
