Vacuum cleaner recommendations

So my partner and I are at the final stage if renovating our home and we are starting to get the little bits together that we will need.
We have two white German shepherds and the one sheds a lot of hair so the cleaner would need to be suitable for pet hair.
We currently have a shark but it is old and a little damaged.

What do you have and what are the perks?

This thread is a bit old now, so if you have landed here looking for recommendations, we recently updated our best vacuum cleaner buyer's guide, featuring the best cordless, cylinder and upright vacuums, tried and tested by Mumsnet.

We hope you find this useful.

I've had Miele Cat and Dogs and always thought they were the best vacuum cleaners when comparing them with others I tried or what friends said about other brands. Tried Dysons and found that their appeal was short lived. Really wanted to like them, but went back to Miele. For the last three years, we have had Sharks, and while they have their faults, they are outweighed by benefits.

We've got the pet attachment, but don't bother with it so much. The anti hair wrap is good (no more cutting my hair and granddaughter's from roller brushes) and the lift away bit makes it easier for stairs, under beds etc. I have been diligent about looking after them (one upstairs and one down), taking them apart and thoroughly cleaning every few weeks.

Henry Hoover.

Definitely NOT a Dyson.

I've got a (rather chunky) Vax one for pets, it's not as chic or convenient as other cordless varieties but my god is it amazing! Beats the Dysons and Sharks I've owned before by a mile.

Oh and the benefits are that it will literally eliminate any hair/crumbs/soiling on your carpets/rugs/hard floor. It makes light work of my dog fur and is the best vacuum I've used for cleaning my car also.

Sebo. They last for ever and are really well made.
