Can I dye these trousers black?

Hi,
I bought these trousers for my daugher but now she is changing schools and the new school requires them to have black trousers. I do not want to spend more money on buying more clothes. Do you think I can dye these black? Will it work with this material?

I don’t think it will turn out well tbh because it’s mixed polyester material. Dylan say Polyester, nylon and other synthetics cannot be dyed. Wool and silk can be dyed with Dylon Hand Fabric Dye. Even if the actual trousers manage to take the dye up evenly, the seams are likely to end up being a completely different colour to the legs. I’d not risk it.

I just dyed some 100% cotton tops and the seam stitching stayed the original colour, which is actually nice as a contrast. I wouldn’t attempt to dye something not 100% cotton.

@LetMeInYourWindow thanks. I guess I will have to bite the bullet and buy new ones now. Everything is so expensive and even though we can buy it, still feels like a waste. 😢

I agree, there's too much polyester which is unlikely to dye well.

Also dye is not that cheap and you need several runs of the washing machine to dye, rinse, then rinse the machine. You'd be well on your way to the cost of 2 new pairs just giving it a go.

Sell them on cheaply to a friend at the first school

i don’t think it’s worth for the reasons above and the economics. Dylon costs between 3.50 to 6.00 so you’d be as well buying new ones.
