Hi there,

I've just come back from my xmas holidays to find that my DH had left a washed load of laundry in our washing machine for the past 3 weeks! My DD & I left for our hols before him which is why I didn't know about it until we came back. Now the inside of the machine & detergent drawer smell musty, almost a bit mouldy/mildewy! I've run the machine on a 90deg wash with lots of detergent but it still smells. Any suggestions on how to clean it?

BTW, does any also know how to clean the part of the washing machine where the drawer is (after you take the drawer out IYKWIM)? I've removed it & noticed a build up of detergent & some brownish/blackish stuff back there ...I tried a toothbrush but it's too short to reach. Any help here would also be greatly appreciated!

TIA

You can buy products for cleaning washing machines. Try any good ironmonger.

Run the washing machine empty its hottest wash with a little bleach in its drawer to clear out detergent and kill bacteria, also leaves it smelling clean.

Pull out drawer, scrub the surround with a stiff brush and some bleach solution.

bleach it.
pour bleach around the inside of the door and in the tray and then leave overnight, then in the morning run it on a boil wash.

i run mine on hot wash with a few soda crystals in the drawer.

I used a cobination of cotton buds, a toothbrush and a steam cleaner on the inside of the drawer.

You must run an empty wash afterwards as you tend to flush lots of nasty black stuff into the drum container with teh steam cleaner.

Someone on MN recommended Soda Crystals which are really cheap and did get rid of musty smell in our washing maching after I ran a service (hot) wash. see this crystals

Still don't know how to get rid of the mould in the drawer though

thanks for all your suggestions!
will try the bleach first, as i have some handy but if that doesn't clear it will go out & buy some soda crystals to try.

any guidelines as to how much bleach to pour in the drawer?
