We moved into our house and I don't think the previous owners cleaned the hearth once in 20 years, it also appeared to be painted black with some strange stuff that wasn't actually paint... however all my scrubbing is useless. It's still dirty!!
Any ideas what I could clean it with? I've tried loads of things - probably things I shouldn't have used but it didn't work anyway, Cif, the pink stuff, elbow grease, washing up liquid and water, Brillo pads, WD40. No matter how much I wash, scrub and try to clean it, it's still dirty!! DS's baby ball fell on it the other day and it had to be put through the washing machine. Can't put any decorations on it as they'll end up stinking. It's an open fire but we're not using it.
