Dr Beckmann for spot stains, also for upholstery, is excellent. It has a brush attached to the top.

Some wool carpets get discoloured with any tiny amount of bleach that might be in carpet cleaning products - learnt to my cost. Start with blotting and gentle detergent.

My carpet is a light wool one, well 80% wool 20% nylon, we paid to have it scotch guard protected when we bought it. A wise move as DH has spilt tea on it twice and dropped jam on it from eating a jam doughnut (he’s banned from eating in the lounge now) It was fitted this time last year.
The liquid just sat on the top of the carpet, I blotted it with a dry clean tea towel then dampened another tea towel and wiped it over. It seems to have worked.
Any wool other carpets we’ve had in the past, I’ve thrown a dry tea towel over the spill, stood on it to blot as much liquid out, then just using plain water, wiping from the outside in towards the centre of with a clean dishcloth, wringing out as I go. Then another dry tea towel is used with my weight behind it to blot as much as possible.
Ive used Dr Beckmann carpet cleaning foam, it does work. don’t take the foil cover completely off the top of the bottle like I did and flood the carpet, leave it on and pierce it once.

a bar of soap or shampoo is fine for cleaning wool. I would get it scotchguarded.
I love wool but buy polypropylene carpets as they are indestructible and don’t stain.
