Shall I complain to cleaner or just leave it?

sorry backstory is a bit long.

i booked a cleaner for an end of tenancy clean, it was £270 to include interior window clean and oven clean. Our house move plans got delayed so very last minute we needed to extend tenancy. Arranged with cleaner to still come and do a deep clean as he said he had turned down a job on the day we had booked so thought it was only fair to still give him the work. The problem is our house was/is a bit of a tip…quite cluttered which I acknowledged and He had seen it as he came round to quote for the move out, but he accepted the job to clean around furniture.

morning of the clean he texted to say he needed to charge an extra £70 because of all the furniture that was in there. I said no, that we didn’t have the budget for that and it wasn’t what we agreed, and if he didn’t want to do the clean after all I understood. He said ok, he was on his way and would do it for £270 as quoted for move out clean.

When I got home around 5:20 he and colleague were leaving so had been there for about 7 hours. He said how they had been non stop all day, how it wasn’t very nice conditions for them to work in etc. Basically trying to make me feel guilty because they had to move lots of our stuff around (which I get is annoying but he had seen what he would be dealing with with his own eyes and accepted the job).

Looking around the house the standard is not what I would expect for 2 people charging basically £20/hr for a days work. Lots of surfaces have been missed, still dusty, tv for example the base has been dusted but the actual screen hasn’t been polished. Crumbs on the toaster, kitchen cupboard doors and handles not cleaned, cobwebs floating around, and windows and oven not touched which we’re supposed to be included in move out clean.

ive never had a cleaner so I’m not sure on what the standard is but I walked in and said it basically looks like how it would if I on my own had spent a solid day cleaning. Not what I would expect from 2 professionals. It does look better than it did but I think I was just expecting more attention to detail for the price.

my husband has already paid him so I’m wondering if I should just let it go or if I should complain that I’m not happy with standard? Not sure what the outcome of complaining would be other than just venting my disappointment and upsetting the cleaner…

thank you for reading!

If it will be regular, I would complain. Otherwise leave it.

@themusicmum I think this is good advice thank you. I definitely won’t be booking him for the move out clean when we go!
