How do you clean your artificial grass? :)

Why do you need to clean your grass ?

You’re brave btw. Artificial grass owners are Satan’s spawn on MN!

darisdet · 13/06/2022 12:30

Zoflora most definitely 😈

StottyCakeandJam · 13/06/2022 12:30

We hoover ours twice a year, that’s it.

darisdet · 13/06/2022 12:32

And hot water, obviously. Something floral scented to blend in with nature.

The ironic tragedy in this statement.

What is making it dirty? I've hosed our once but it wasn't dirty however. We use the garden hoover if it has a lot of tree detritus on it but to be honest, it doesn't need much maintenance at all - which is why we have it, to be honest.

Because we have a dog who likes to do his business on it and a toddler who plays on said grass too :)

I've noticed Grin

Absolutely!

We did have proper grass until we got our dog. He made most of it mud with his endless zoomies up and down the garden, not to mention the digging. Artificial grass works best for us because we have a daughter who has just started walking and it's better for her to walk on artifical grass than fall into many of the holes our dog has dug.

This is true. Linen fresh, for example, wouldn't smell as authentic and fit in with nature. I prefer lavender or twilight garden.

DirtyteaCup · 13/06/2022 12:58

You let your dog crap on it? And wee?
That is totally gross and I am not at all squeamish (my dog goes on our real lawn where it is picked up with the residue washing into nature)

Dont be so lazy and take the dog out.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 13/06/2022 13:02

I just put some cleaner stuff off Amazon in the watering can and then hose it. But I've only done it once in nearly 3 years. If drainage is good there is no real need

@DirtyteaCup We don't have a 'real lawn', hence the title of the thread. Where exactly would you like him to do his business?!

My dog uses ours too. Like a proper lawn. It's not remotely gross.

My dog also goes out. I don't know a single person who has a dog that only goes on walks. What an odd thing to say

Artificial grass is hated on MN. Our house come with it and it's been an absolute game changer for us. It replaced a raised slabbed area looking at old pictures of the house when it was for sale before so is much more usable now. I can't cut a grass or properly wipe my dogs feet when he is muddy due to disability so it's been a real help for us.

Our old garden was pretty much unusable from end of September until about April time due to the mud pit it became

Tessasanderson · 13/06/2022 13:34

We have one of those leaf suckers/blowers to keep ours looking good. Our dogs get walked 4 x per day and still if they need to go, they need to go. No issue, just pick it up as normal or if its just a wee then the good old british weather takes care of it by giving it a through soaking most weeks.

We had a artificial lawn for 15 yrs at our old premises. With hardly any work other than picking up straight away it was pristine. The same couldnt be said of our neighbours grass lawn who had to send his family inside so he could cut the lawn every so often because there were turd grenades hidden all over the place.

OddSocksandRainbowDocs · 13/06/2022 14:00

@Tessasanderson It gets picked up straight away because otherwise, he eats it 😳 Now, @DirtyteaCup THAT's 'totally gross' Smile

It’s hard not to overstate how bad artificial grass is. It’s hated with good reason. It’s not recyclable anywhere in Europe and a company have just been reprimanded for saying it’s environmentally friendly. I speak as someone with dc and dogs and whose lawn is currently half bald because of football being played on it in winter. It doesn’t bother me though. There are loads of alternatives. We have a disabled family member and they garden to the point which they are able. There are loads of ways to garden in a disabled friendly way. Sue Kent for example is an inspiration. If you do still insist you need plastic in the garden (and in my experience of them they do smell really bad and need cleaning) please don’t accompany them with plastic plants. Put something in the ground which wildlife can feed from.

I have enough to do and worry about without having to worry about my garden. It was here before we moved in and I have no reason to replace it so no worries about recycling it in the future anyway. If it's going to last forever it may as well last forever in my garden

Tsandjdarethrbest · 13/06/2022 15:35

I have plenty to do and plenty to worry about. Believe me. But I keep sane and healthy looking after my garden and doing my bit for the planet is an added bonus.

Well I would love to be able to garden. But sadly I can't. Can't walk either and I used to enjoy walking. Life sucks.

I do a lot for the environment too. I just have a black mark for having plastic grass

Tsandjdarethrbest · 13/06/2022 17:38

There are lots of alternatives to low mainstream gardens which don’t involve artificial grass like bark. A lot of people are stopping cutting grass altogether and it looks beautiful.
