How do you deep clean, what do you stock up on? Things like tea, coffee, new hand soaps, fresh towels etc.

Just put clean bedding on the spare bed. We generally keep the house very clean and tidy though. Obviously I'll order any extra food if I'm making a special meal but it just goes on the normal food shop.

I put fresh bedding on the bed, and hoover.

Food and drink wise, I ask what they like and get in some of that, or would ask them to bring some if specialist. (My mum used to like a special blend of coffee she found local to her, she brought some with her.)

Because we are in Aus we tend to have guests staying for weeks rather than nights. I generally buy new towels for people from somewhere like KMart (not expensive), we have bedding specifically for our spare room so that gets freshly laundered and put on. Check the bedside lights are working and fan/heater depending on season and I would make sure that any dietary requirements were catered to.

BUT a few years ago prior to COVID we had a few guests from hell in one year including a family of four who basically ruined our Christmas so ideally our spare room is now for occasional overnight guests only. I already got rid of the sofa beds that allowed us to sleep more people and that room is now an office. My motto now is if you can’t afford accommodation, you can’t afford the holiday.

I'm always deep cleaning through the week so that schedule doesn't change, but I do ensure the cat litter is fresh and the floors are done as they make the whole house smell nice and it means I can do a hoover and a once over with the mop each night and they will be fresh again.

I stock up on tea, coffee, hot chocolate, herbal teas, and snacks, and the ingredients for what I'll be cooking them.

Make sure bathrooms are clean (they’re done every week anyway so shouldn’t be too bad)
Vacuum through
Fresh bedding on bed and a pile of towels
Plan what I’m going to be feeding them and make sure I have everything I need
