Cleaning white highchair straps - any ideas?

I need to clean them but don't know where to start. I think I can get them off the highchair, should I bleach them or will that wreck them??

soak them with biological powder/liquid and use a toothbrush to get in the nooks and crannies.

I would worry that bleach would yellow them.

TheGiftedandTalentedGoat · 14/01/2008 13:08

shove them in washing machine

bobsmum · 14/01/2008 13:08

If they come off the high chair then bung them in a pillow case or a mesh laundry bag and wash them in the machine with bio. I've always done that with my canvassy type ones and they've come out briliantly. hth

I need to clean mine but they don't detatch from the highchair.

KaySamuels · 14/01/2008 13:10

Yes did wonder if they would yellow, they are some manmade plasticky fabric so may well do.

Good idea about a toothbrush, thanks am gonna try that.

Will check back in this evening to report progress!

Nail brush sounds like your best bet jodieg1. Gonna try and get the straps off mine now!

Yep, remember the days of cleaning straps with a toothbrush, it works a treat! Resolved to make sure I didn't have to do that too often though and so strapped DD in before putting full sized, 'arms and all' bib on her, covering the straps up nicely

KaySamuels · 14/01/2008 13:26

Big bibs sound good racers may have to get some of those, ds's old highchair had dark green straps - much more durable, but got a new one for baby mindee. What was I thinking buying one with white straps?!

To be fair KS, you want to be able to see the dirt really because that makes you wash it otherwise it would get left longer and the bacteria would be disgusting. I spray mine with detol when I clean the rest of it though the straps come off and go in washing machine when they need it.

sweetkitty · 14/01/2008 13:44

Oh I remember this why did I buy a highchair with white straps that don't come off? Highchairs really should be bright orange.

Biological washing powder worked here as well.

KaySamuels · 14/01/2008 13:50

Yes the wash powder has worked a treat with a nail brush, have now put them in the wash with the other whites. Am amazed how quick it was actually!

I dettol them with rest of highchair too LMG but they were stained from orange babyfood! Don't want them stained as mindee's mum may think they are unhygienic, they aren't they just don't agree with orange food!

I changed mine to a pair of navy blue walking reins. Much easier to remove and wash.

babyjjbaby · 21/01/2008 22:20
