it says dry clean but literally cannot find a dry cleaners willing to clean it. It’s 2.5y old and is grubby, has been weed on (thanks puppy) and just needs a clean badly!

It’s not just smooth leather though so I’d be thinking clean more like suede.

In terms of smells I think I would try tying it in a bin bag with an open tub of bicarbonate of soda for a few days. Bicarb absorbs smells. I’d probably put a few drops of a nice essential oil in it. If I was feeling brave I’d sprinkle some bicarb actually on the rug (without the essential oil!) and leave it for a few days then hoover off.

We used to clean suede shoes over the steam of the kettle and then brush them. After the bicarb I’d be tempted to hang it over the line and use a hand held steamer on the reverse side of the rug, just in a small area, to see if that worked okay, & if it was ok I’d do it over the whole rug.

I’m a bit gung-ho though and regularly regret my actions!
