Help I've ruined my worktop

I spilt some turmeric on my wooden worktop!

I read that baking powder can get it out but this has now massively caused a stain and now it's 800x worse.

Apparently you should NEVER use baking powder on wood.

Any chance I can sand it out?

Or is it knackered.

Can you sand it down and re varnish it?

You'll have to do the entire section for a uniform look.

It's actually just a block the middle of a granite worktop - sort of butchers block size. So I could sand the whole thing.

Sanding down will work, start with coarser, then fine.

Make sure you tape, double tape and then protect even more the granite surrounding though!
