Grease stain on jeans

Thought I had spilt hot water on my jeans but it turned out to be olive oil and I only realised when the stain dried!! Tried some Vanish but it's done nothing. Does anyone have any better ideas? I'd just paid to get the jeans shortened so don't want to have to chuck them.

Washing up liquid. Or any anti-grease household cleaner.

Comfortablynumbertwo · 08/05/2022 20:49

Original fairy liquid and wash as normal. Vanish is rubbish.

gunnersgold · 08/05/2022 20:51

Def washing up liquid because it's an emulsifier and breaks down the grease . Vanish is great but not for grease

Somanysocks · 08/05/2022 20:54

Yep, always massage a bit of washing up liquid in stains before chucking in the wash.

If you've got any washing up pre-treatment sprays (yes. I know. It's a thing), try that.

If not, try a soak in diluted washing up liquid, with a concentrated squirt on the stain.

Yep. Washing up liquid. Works on sweatshirts too which is handy as they seem to be a magnet for grease in this house.

I’d do washing up liquid then vanish granules on top and left to soak for a while

MustDust · 08/05/2022 20:57

DH is a nightmare for getting oil on his tops when cooking, elbow grease spray is my go to before chucking in a long wash.

I think washing up liquid sounds a good idea but you can also iron with something absorbent on either side of the stain

crispinglovershighkick · 08/05/2022 20:59

Cornflour on both sides of stain at least overnight then pretreat with laundry liquid or washing up liquid (but the latter can remove colour).

Thank you wonderful Mumsnetters! I squirted the stains with Fairy and rubbed it in. I left the jeans for about an hour before putting in the machine on a 2 hour wash at 60 degrees and the 2 big grease stains HAVE GONE!!! Thanks for all the advice.
