What is wrong with my dishwasher?

Everything comes out coated in a thin layer of grime.

I've taken everything out and cleaned all the bits that come apart. I've run it empty a few times. I've used one of those dishwasher cleaners which helps a bit for a few days but then it gets bad again.

It has plenty salt and rinse aid.

A freind suggested I rinse everything before I put it in, but that sounds allot like washing up to me.

Any ideas?

ours did this and it turned out to be that the water wasn't heating - if you open the door part way through (if safe) or immediately at the end, is it hot? ours was the circuit board, but it could just be the thermostat

Racers · 10/01/2008 15:08

oh i don't know, re-reading, if it is just a thin layer, it's probably not the same as ours, which was more than that. may be worth checking anway.

I'll check and see if it's hot. I usually run it at night so it's cold in the morning.

Thanks

how often do you clean the filter?
might be worth rinsing it after every load

Sushipaws · 10/01/2008 16:14

Yeah, I guess I should. I've been cleaning it every couple of days and it doesn't seem clogged but I'll give it a go

The machine is under 2 years old and it's worked perfectly until about a month ago. Pfffff, another thing wrong with my ikea kitchen.

are you me?! we are going through exactly the same thing...driving us up the wall. Just did a cleany thing with it earlier and it is just finishing a wash now so will see if it has any effect.

MrsCarrot · 10/01/2008 16:18

ust done this with mine and it's still left a shitty salty yellow layer over the top stuff, it's SO annoying.

Piggy · 10/01/2008 16:19

Is the pipe blocked? That can often mean everything gets covered in gubbins.

tibni · 10/01/2008 16:19

my ancient dishwasher sometimes leaves a gritty film if it is overloaded or if the filter needs cleaning out.

I think running it empty on the hottest wash is a good idea. I don't rinse all my stuff first (I know I should)

Hope you get it sorted

I just spoke to my Dad and he said it was potato build up. He's suggested running it empty, then running it with one of those dishwasher cleaners then only rinsing things with potato on them before I put them in.

Just thought I'd let you know.
